The wait is over: Huawei has presented in China the renewal of its highest range for 2021, two phones that it had previously leaked and that are now official in China. The Huawei P50 and Huawei P50 Pro offer high power, great camera features, and a design marked by its rear face.

It is not that Huawei is going through its best moment, that the American veto has damaged its business in all its aspects, especially that of smartphones. The brand has been prevented from using Google apps or their processors; hence the Huawei P50 has taken so long to arrive. Will it be able to maintain its footprint in the “premium” segment of mobile phones? By characteristics, it will not be.

Huawei maintains innovation despite difficulties

Huawei P50 Pro

As we said at the beginning, the brand is not finding it too easy to maintain its smartphone division, the American veto means that it cannot count on the usual components. Even so, the Huawei P50 and Huawei P50 Pro are demonstrations of the commitment that the manufacturer maintains to offer quality phones, with unique design, excellent materials, and hardware to match.

Both phones’ screens retain OLED technology and the relevant cutout at the top to house the front camera. In terms of diagonal, the Huawei P50 has a flat 6.5-inch screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz; the Huawei P50 Pro has a 4.6-inch screen with curved edges and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Both phones feature XD Fusion Pro image enhancement technology.

The mobile cameras maintain their power thanks to the gigantic rear modules. With differences, both in number and in performance: the Huawei P50 bets on a triple camera with a 50 megapixel main, 13 megapixels wide-angle, and 13-megapixel telephoto. For its part, the Huawei P50 Pro includes a quadruple rear camera with a 50 megapixel main one; to which it adds a 40-megapixel monochrome sensor, a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 64-megapixel telephoto.

In front, and under the hole-shaped cutout under the panel, the Huawei P50 and P50 Pro incorporate the same sensor: 13 megapixels with a wide-angle lens.

One of the most surprising details of both phones, apart from their later design, is the Snapdragon 888 with which they start as standard; Although cut in benefits since neither the Huawei P50 nor the Huawei P50 Pro incorporates 5G. The P50 equips the aforementioned Snapdragon 888; The P50 Pro offers the Huawei Kirin 9000 as standard with a special edition that does take advantage of to include the Qualcomm SoC. Both models come with enough RAM and storage.

Huawei offers IP68 dust and water protection on both models. Both also feature 66 W wired fast charging, although only the Huawei P50 Pro offers wireless fast charging (50 W). In battery capacities, they also differ: the P50 stays at 4,100 mAh and the P50 Pro at 4,360 mAh.
